Whether it's a website, an online store, or even a blog, there are certain factors that require special attention for your website's security.

Before I begin to explain what these factors are, let me first analyze why you should prioritize your website's security when building it, or even when you already own a website or online store.

One of the primary reasons I personally place great emphasis on is personal data. I believe you understand that no customer wants credit cards, emails, and other personal data to be leaked.

Also, a very significant issue that many overlook is that if a hacker manages to gain control of a website, the owner can essentially lose access. This entails very serious losses.

All of the above are some of the most important reasons. There are certain factors that require great attention.

Let's analyze how to secure your website

SSL Certificate

The SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate is essential for encrypting your website because, as the name suggests, it encrypts the connection between the web server and your client's browser.

CMS Update

Almost all websites are built with a CMS (Content Management System). When the CMS you used to create your website is ready-made, such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, etc., then at regular intervals, the respective CMS team releases new versions that include new features or bug fixes, or both.

You understand that leaving the CMS itself unupdated can become very dangerous for both you, the owners, and your visitors.

Template - Theme Update

Updating the theme is one of the key criteria for keeping the website secure. For themes provided by WordPress.org, free updates are given at regular intervals, depending on the developer's policy.

Themes provided for a fee outside WordPress.org are updated based on the policy of each respective developer, and you must learn from the support of that developer how to properly update the theme.

Plugin Updates

Just like the theme you have installed on your website, the plugins that the theme might require, or even some that you have installed additionally to perform your work, also need the updates provided by the developer to remain secure.

How plugin updates are performed depends on where you obtained the plugins. If you have any of the plugins available on the WordPress platform, then updates will be available at regular intervals on wordpress.org and will appear in the updates section.

For paid plugins not available on WordPress.org, the update process is different, and you must get information from the vendor directly.

Backups

Beyond the updates you will need to perform at regular intervals, another good way to keep your website more secure is to maintain backups.

To create backups, there are various plugins that perform this task automatically. With these plugins, you can set up a backup schedule, for example, daily, weekly, or monthly.

Security Plugin

A security plugin is like the antivirus we have on our computer; it can prevent an unwanted user from intruding, and it can enable us to log into our account with two steps, meaning we first enter our username and password, and then it sends us a code to our mobile phone that lasts for approximately two to fifteen minutes.

How to secure your website is a rather critical process.
